OUR STORY
Our story begins in 1990 in a Downtown Knoxville that had yet to find its modern vibe.
We called ourselves the Flying Tomato and aimed to serve meals that were fresh and healthy. Open for lunch five days a week, we served our friends and family on paper plates with plastic forks. But that inauspicious beginning evolved into The Tomato Head of today with an ongoing commitment to the quality of our food and to the health of our guests.
Though we’ve grown a lot since then (and happily abandoned all that plastic in favor of more sustainable alternatives), we’ve continued to nurture the tradition of serving food that’s fresh, flavorful, and wholesome – and making it that way every day.
Our journey continues, as it began, with an understanding that the heart of our house beats not only in our kitchen but in the people who move around it and everyone who is fed by it. Along the way we also learned that while cultivating our ties to the culture, neighborhoods, and, above all, our neighbors, might be good for business, it’s even better for our heart and soul.
